Pedro Carneiro Silva
Musician, composer and performer from Rio de Janeiro.
In partnership with the German/Iranian Artist Ardalan Aram, develops the “Free Seat” project, which proposes an innovative way of creating music through random encounters in the city. The project has already been performed in Berlin, São Paulo, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Curitiba. With Free Seat, Pedro and Ardalan, received awards in Brazil and abroad gaining prominence in several media vehicles in the last years.
In 2022, Pedro was selected for the "Musicians in Residency" program, promoted by the British Council. During the residency, with the support of two British institutes Oxford Contemporary Music and 101 Outdoor Arts, developed the project "Atravessar (Crossing)".
In 2019, Pedro was one of the invited artist/speaker for the Me Convention, promoted by the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Frankfurt. Event that brought together selected artists and scientists from around the world.
Also in 2019, Pedro launched the project “O Trampolim de Oiticica”. An interdisciplinary project in which, inspired by concepts from the work of the Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica, he worked on musical composition linked to propositions from the field of performance.
In 2017, released the album “Versos do Capitão”, with singer and composer Luiza Sales. With this project he held concerts in Germany, Switzerland, England, Iceland, India, Portugal, Spain and Brazil.
Also in 2017, Pedro released the album “Água Verde”, in a duo with the clarinetist Frederico Cavaliere, the first work with his instrumental compositions.
In 2016, he was professor of composition, arrangement and piano at the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music (SAM), in Chennai (India), and in 2018 an invited professor for the spring semester at the Global Music Institute (GMI), in Delhi.
He has projects and partnerships with artists from different parts of the world, such as with the Filipino singer and composer Mishka Adams and with Indian violinist Lalitha Nandini.
Regularly holds workshops in Brazil and abroad. He was invited to talk about his relationship with musical composition in different academic environments, such as in the UNIRIO project “Technique and pianistic interpretation”, in the Graduate Program in Social Psychology at UERJ, at Yamaha School of Music Valencia, Sri Aurobindo Center for Arts and Communication (Delhi), among others.
In his academic career Pedro Carneiro Silva has a degree in Brazilian Music (MPB) from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), and a master's degree in Piano / Jazz from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML).
